This past weekend I had the privilege of being a panelist at Michael Angier’s SuccessNet Summit in Burlington, VT. This seminar had some of the best quality participants I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!
What made them a high quality audience?
Well, first off, they were action takers! Every one of them took action by just attending the event in the first place.
More importantly, every one of them left the event with a clear action plan for what they would do to build their business.
And, every one of them left the event with the necessary knowledge for HOW to put their plan into action.
I attend at least 8 to 10 events per year. Some years, I go to more than a dozen events. I’ve been doing this for years now. So I consider myself a bit of an expert on seminars and who attends them.
I gotta tell you — most events I attend do not have an audience that is comprised of action takers.
All too often, the only real “action” that the attendees take is getting to the event, and then having a great time partying when they’re there.
But this crowd was different … they were all really SERIOUS about building their businesses. You could tell in the questions they were asking.
Every time I’m in a crowd of action takers like I was this weekend, I always get re-energized! You can almost “feel” the power of the energy within the room!
It’s almost “electric” … I keep waiting to see little sparks coming out of peoples’ fingertips and even their heads!
That’s some SERIOUS power!
If I’m re-energized by events like this, I’m certain that for the attendees the affect is even bigger. They all leave anxious to start building their businesses faster come Monday morning.
The thing is, there just isn’t any other way to duplicate that energy that comes from attending an event with “action takers”. That kind of energy just doesn’t exist in any other setting.
About the closest thing to the type of energy that comes from a group of action takers attending an event together, is the energy created in some forums and some social networks.
If you’ve got a group of like minded individuals, who are all focusing their energy in a similar direction, or on a similar topic — and all of them are also action takers — then having them participate in a site where they can communicate with one another and share ideas will usually come close to creating this kind of energy.
I see it happen in The IM University’s forum.
We have a great group in the forum. They are all like minded individuals, all trying to figure out how to build their businesses, and all sharing ideas on how to do just that.
This creates a group energy that really gets people fired up. It inspires people to take MORE action and to get BIGGER results.

I also see this happen on some social networks — especially in social networks that have groups. One such site is Facebook. You can set up a profile on Facebook, and then go out and find “Friends” that you can invite to join you on Facebook. Once you have at least 500 friends on your Facebook account, then you want to start a Group.
Now — there are 2 things that are important to making this work …
1) You should be choosing friends strategically.
In other words, you want to invite people who are of like mindset AND people who you feel would get along well energetically. As much as possible, these people should share some common interest.
AND
2) You need to be planning the outcome from your group, i.e. what is the purpose that you are trying to serve.
You can use your Facebook Group for any number of things. These include building your credibility as an expert, driving traffic to your site, building a list, making sales, etc. But you’ve got to KNOW what outcome you want, or your Group won’t be successful.
As you’re building your Facebook Group, it helps to do some visualizations each and every day about the outcome/end result that you want from the Group. It also helps to remind your Group members that they should be using their energy to do the same. (To this end, you’ll want to have a common purpose for them to focus on.)
Once you get this group of like-minded people all focused on a common goal or purpose, it will be REALLY powerful!
And once you’ve got a Facebook profile and a Group, you can EASILY sell affiliate products immediately to monetize both the profile and the group.
The thing is … you’ve got to KNOW how to set up your Facebook profile in the right way to attract the right people.
You need BOTH — the RIGHT MESSAGE and the RIGHT AUDIENCE in order to have success with this strategy. Once you have both, the rest is a piece of cake!
