Do You Serve Your Audience By Telling Stories?

I’ve had quite a week! I’ve done 3 calls with Ronda Del Baccio, “The Story Lady”, of www.ProfitableStorytelling.com. Each one of those calls has made me think … I mean REALLY got me thinking about a number of different issues …
Like what I call “The Story of You” and what Ronda calls “Your Core Story”.
This is the story that you use to tell your audience who you are, what you’re all about, and why they want to listen to you. It’s what tells them that you are THE expert in your market.
Without your core story, you’re just another schmoe trying to sell them something — something that they probably neither want nor need.
With your core story you’re there to serve them. You really KNOW your stuff because you LIVE it every day!
You’re on a quest! A mission of sorts. And that mission includes helping your prospect to solve a problem that’s causing them pain.
The amount of pain they are in determines the amount they are willing to pay you to get out of pain. In other words, it determines how much they will pay for what you have to sell them.
The more pain they’re in, the more they’re willing to pay to get rid of the pain.
The more they truly believe that you are the one who can get them out of pain, the more they are willing to buy that solution from YOU rather than the next guy in the search results.
There’s a few KEYS to success here …
#1 — First and foremost, you’ve got to make your prospect perceive you as that “stranger with experience” who has “been there/done that” and come out smelling like a rose in the end!
The “Story of You” illustrates to your prospect just how awful the pain you had really was, what you did to get out of pain, and how successful you were at getting rid of the pain completely!
It then needs to go on to show them why YOU are the ONLY expert they should listen to. Why should they buy from you and not the next guy who has also solved the same problem in his life?
#2 — The second important thing is that your prospect must really FEEL the pain they are in.
The thing is, many times your prospect doesn’t even readily recognize being in pain. It’s your job to both SHOW THEM the pain AND then, make them FEEL it! Even go so far as to drive the knife in a little deeper and jiggle it a little.
Now don’t misunderstand me here. You’re not doing this maliciously. You’re not doing this to simply put cash in your pocket.
Your entire focus has GOT to be SERVING your prospect.
You’re doing it because it really will benefit your prospect and it’s the right thing to do — for THEM!
So how can you accomplish both #1 and #2 in your business?
That’s where Ronda comes in — You do it with STORIES!
It starts with the “Story of You”. This goes into your About page on your blog, into the bio you place in your Squidoo Lens, your Hub Pages account, your Facebook profile, etc. Anywhere you have a presence online, you tell the “Story of You”.
Ronda did a fantastic job of explaining her step-by-step method for creating the “Story of You” in my Blog Talk Radio show, “Relationship Marketing 101″ at noon eastern this past Tuesday. You can listen to the recording at:

To accomplish #2, you’ll also need to use stories.
These are stories that you create from everyday things in your life.
You read examples of stories I share with you all the time. In fact, even telling you about Ronda in this message is an example.
I find stories every day in almost anything I do …
A dinner at a restaurant that not only has great food but a complete line of products based around the theme of the restaurant or around items on the menu, can turn into an email or blog post about building a profit funnel.

No matter what niche you are in, you can easily find a story that has a lesson in it just by paying attention to things you do all day long, people you come in contact with, and places you go. You simply need to develop what I call “the eye of the marketer” or what Ronda refers to as “the story teller’s eye”.
We both mean the same thing. It’s that little voice inside you that whispers to you, “Hey, there’s something about this that you can share with others!”
If you really have a mindset of SERVING your audience and not SELLING your audience, you’ll find all sorts of stories that you can tell!
This is where private label rights materials can be REALLY REALLY helpful!
All you need to do is grab some articles or emails that come with private label rights, add your stories to them, and VOILA! you have instant content for your blog, for your ezine, for your autoresponder series, or even for articles that you syndicate to article directories!
With a few minutes of your time, a PLR article or email, and a story, you can have a REALLY powerful message that can rake in c’ash almost instantly!
If you have a list, you can use it to send an email to your list and be making s’ales in a few minutes.
If you don’t have a list, you can post it on your blog, social bookmark your post, tweet about your post, and have sales rolling in within an hour or two.
The point is this …
When you’ve got stories that you can use, just about any PLR material you can find can become your own original work, with your own personality QUICKLY and EASILY! All you need is to find a product that works with the message, and you’re in business!
I would even go so far as to say it’s EFFORTLESS!
That’s how easy it is!
When you have PLR materials that you can use that are tied to specific products, then your “work” is even easier!
