Over this past week, I’ve done a number of Strategy Sessions with people who have purchased one of my products.

Are You Using Solid Marketing Fundamentals in Your Business?

Just about every Strategy Session covers the same material. And that material is really BASIC stuff! I feel like I’m starting to sound like a broken record!

So today, I thought that I would take a few minutes and get back to basics for a change. In other words, start at the beginning with what is it that you want to do to get your business started.

No matter what business you’re in you need to master and use solid marketing fundamentals in order to compete.

If you’re someone who already has a business started, I suggest that you Listen Up as well!

Most of the people I’ve talked to on these Strategy Sessions already had their businesses up and running as well!

The thing is, none of them are making any money at all. And if they are, it’s not much, and it’s certainly not consistent.

What is it that is preventing these people from making money consistently in their business?

Let’s say that you’ve already taken the plunge to build your business online.

You’ve already started buying products with Resale Rights and others with Private Label Rights.

Maybe you’ve even put up a website that is meant to sell a bunch of these products.

Where do you go from there?

  • How do you drive traffic to the site?
  • How do you build your list?
  • How do you turn it all into a steady in’come?

Well, if you did manage to get that far, you need to STOP immediately!

I’m talking the kind of STOP that happens in Monopoly when you get the “Go To Jail” card. You immediately have to stop what you’re doing, do not pass go, do not collect $200, etc.

There are 2 reasons that you need to stop.

The first is because of a big catch-22 that exists when you try to sell any products at all in what I call the “make money niche”. Those are products that have anything to do with internet marketing, building a home
based business, or network marketing.

The catch-22 goes like this:

In order to be successful in the “make money markets”,
(or any other market for that matter) you need to be
seen as a credible expert by your prospective customers.

The way that you do that is to put yourself out as an
expeprt through your blog and through your newsletter.

Here’s where the catch-22 comes in …

In the “make m’ney markets”, it’s tough to become a
credible expert until you’ve had some success online.

On the other hand, without that credibility, you can’t
be successful.

So you keep going in circles, never actually seeing
much success.

How can you break that circle?

You need to find a market that you can enter as an expert without needing to have success online first.

That’s why you often hear me and the other gurus telling you to get into a niche that you are passionate about.

When you have a passion, you usually have enough experience to at least talk like an expert in your blog and your newsletter.

So when you hear experts say “follow your passion” what we really mean is to find a topic that you can talk like an expert on.

If there is a topic that you can speak like an expert about, but you are not passionate about the topic, that might still work.

That brings us to the second reason that the “make money markets” don’t work for people.

In order to be successful online, you must first do your research and determine what it is that people are already BUYING.

Now be careful here … you don’t want to go into a market just because people are searching for the topic online. That isn’t enoughto ensure that people will
actually BUY what you want to sell.

Instead, you must make sure that people are really spending money on what it is that you want to sell.

You can do this by using Ask.com instead of Google and do a few searches looking for associations in your market that have statistics about the buying habits of people in that market.

I have yet to find a niche that doesn’t have an association that has this type of information. It just takes a little searching to find it. Ask.com will usually help to narrow your search results faster than Google would.

Once you know what people are really BUYING, then and ONLY then, should you be going out to find products to sell to your market!

You do NOT start with the product first!

That’s one of the biggest mistakes I see people making over and over again online.

Another huge mistake that I see all the time is that people don’t realize that for every type of product on the internet, there are 2 possible things that people
are buying:

1) They could be buying the product, OR
2) They could be spending money researching products

A great example of this is wedding dresses.

There’s a wedding association that actually breaks the statistics down to show you how much people are spending online researching various items in the
wedding market and how much people are spending online buying the products in the wedding market.

For almost every possible product in the wedding market, more than twice as much is spent online researching the item than is spent online buying the product.

If your research doesn’t break things down to show you how much is being spent researching vs. how much is being spent buying, keep looking! Perhaps checking a few forums could be helpful as well.

But do NOT just go out and try to sell the product any way!

Now here’s where things get really interesting …

Remember how I said you want to become an instant expert?

Well, as an expert who sells an Info Product, inside of that Info Product, people will expect you to recommend the right and the best products to them.

Once you have found a topic that people are spending money online researching, you can either create your own Info Product and sell it, or have one ghostwritten for you, or find a product with either Private Label
Rights or Public Domain Rights and modify it so that it is your own.

This is your golden opportunity to rake in TONS more cash than you made on sales of the info product itself!

Inside of the Info Product that you sell, make sure that you actually tell your readers what they should be buying!

Use your affiliate links to do that. Use links to your other products. You can even use links to your network marketing products.

Your reader has already purchased from you once. Your reader is likely to purchase from you again! Just give him the opportunity to do so!

This is how you build a business online instead of a hobby.

This is how the big boys have made millions and it’s exactly how you can pr’ofit too!
