How to Create a Custom WordPress Theme…

Certainly there’s no denying that blogging plays a big role in the success of many online business.

It builds relationships with your readers.

The search engines love them.

And it remains one of the best ways for you to establish yourself as an “expert” in a given niche.

The toughest part, unless you’re really good at php and photoshop, is creating that “unique” look of professionalism for your blog.

Just imagine…

** Imagine creating custom WordPress themes in mere minutes.
** Imagine saving yourself hours every week.
** Imagine making more money with less time and effort.

A screenshot of the default WordPress theme.

Image via Wikipedia

I’ll give you the fact that it sounds like a real stretch of the imagination and quite possibly too good to be true but bear with me just a minute.

Over the last several years I’ve gotten to know a lot of people who make a lot of money online. These are Internet Marketers who have a variety of ways to make money on the Internet. Some of these ways involve using WordPress sites.

Some techniques for making money are really creative, but most are common.

These techniques include CPA offers, affiliate campaigns, and blogging. That’s just to name a few.

And you can use all these techniques and more with a WordPress blog (I’ll bet your competition already knows this)…

That’s why it’s imperative that you move quickly and beat your competitors to the punch.

But it’s also important that you convey quality and professionalism — a shoddy look will only hurt your efforts no matter how fast you are.

It’s almost a Catch-22. Yes, Time=Mo.ney (especially on the net). But Lack of Professionalism=Lack of Mo.ney (especially when it’s your blog that does the “talking” for you).

Almost depressing isn’t it.

And particularly so for those who lack the skills to design custom sites.

There is good news for those of you that are “technically challenged” … it’s been over 8 months in the making and it provides a way for you (that’s the “not so skilled” you) to design custom blogs in a matter of minutes.

What is it?

This is really ground breaking stuff for the beginner or novice as it allows you the flexibility of 6 different WordPress themes, each with 6 color combinations. But there’s a lot more…

In all you’ll get:

** 6 Highly Customizable WordPress Themes (with Interchangeable Header Graphics and Call to Action Buttons).
** Easy to Edit Options for all Details Such as Color, Typography, Layout, and Much More.
** An Awesome Graphic Editor for Creating Highly Customizable Headers (You Can Edit Text, Color, Images, Graphical Overlays, and Much More).
** Everything You Need to Create Awesome Looking Sites Fast and Easy.

And there’s still more.

You’ll need to read the sales page to find out more. Heck, there’s even bonuses that aren’t advertised that make this site a real one-of-a-kind (and I won’t make you guess or try to bait you into joining just to find out what they are)…

Not only do you get the 6 customizable blog themes, the graphic creators and the valuable bonuses — you also get “longevity” bonuses — the first one (on day 8 of your membership) consists of 5 PLR products including mini-site themes, more WordPress themes and WordPress sales page themes.

And every month they’ll be new “niche specific” graphic creators added (you’ll have unlimited use to all the creators, the themes and the bonuses once you sign up).

Right now this amazing membership site is in pre-launch and it’s priced the lowest you’ll ever see it so please don’t waste too much time.

See you there…

Well, you should have mentioned what benefit does wordpress really give to small business owners, to people that their soul base is a business, and not blogging. While WordPress was made for bloggers, to have their own blog and start making some content around it, some other people like business owners can use wordpress in the opposite way. True, WordPress is not a CMS, but it’s an open source project and lots of people have contributed to it. Business owners can utilize WordPress to create websites that their main goal is the business itself, and a blog as a second goal. The cost on creating such website will be minimalistic, while still reaching the destination, of a professional business website.

This looks like a great tutorial! I’ve tried going through WP’s Codex and the language is very complicated. It takes reading several times to understand some of it, and although I’m starting to understand a lot more, as a learner I find it very confusing. I’m trying to learn JS and PHP but it’s going to take some time, so any help I can get along the way is a boost! Thanks for this.

WordPress is a great CMS for most small business and personally, I think every website deserves a custom theme, because frankly: every website is unique. I’d rather hire a cheap graphic designer than buy a theme that has already been used a 100 times before.

By combining creativity with WordPress customization, you can impress your visitors with a unique design that encourages them to subscribe to your feed or come back to check out some more content when you make updates. If you already have a fully designed website, you can utilize the WordPress customization features to enable your blog to integrate perfectly with your web site’s theme for complete branding

One of the greatest themes on hand for affiliate marketers is the Affiliate WordPress Theme. It is very easy to set up and very simple to operate which makes is a breeze to set up for anyone with little experience. There is one more theme that works very well with affiliate marketing and that is the Flexibility Theme. This theme is particularly customizable (you can change just about every aspect of the entire blog) plus it has space already set up to customize product ads above the fold at the top of the page.

I just love WordPress. It is online and offers multiple users, which means you’re not the only one who can fix something in a pinch and you can access it from anywhere. Which means if you’ve got Internet access in Tahiti, you could work from there. That also means your important site is backed up on a secure server with multiple redundancies, not some high school kid’s laptop.

  19. Robert from New Forest Camping on Wed, 9th Jun 2010 5:47 am

I just loved this article and I love wordpress too. I personally use Joomla. For the people who don’t know what it is- Joomla is one of the pioneering editors of WordPress themes. Beginners of WordPress design often use the creations of Joomla. Aside from their artistic designs, their WordPress themes and templates are easy to run. Unlike other WordPress themes it has an uninstall option which makes it more manageable. It is also capable of restoring its own configurations when sudden problems occur. The concept of having a secured WordPress theme is also one of the famous ideas of Joomla.

  23. Gina Gaudio-Graves on Mon, 14th Jun 2010 8:22 pm

    Hi Brent:

I’m not sure that I understand what you are looking for when you say the “template option dropdown in Wordpress”. What are you trying to do?

If you are looking to put in a new theme, you would select “Themes” under the “Appearance” section in the left sidebar. There’s an option to import a new theme there as well. Then, from the “Appearance” page, you sould simply select the theme that you want to use from the screenshots that appear on the page.

If you’re looking for something else, please be more specific and I will do my best to respond. Note that you can often get a faster response by asking your question in our forum. You’ll find it at http://www.DirectionsU.com . That’s our new site with our new brand — Directions University. Inside, you’ll find a social network and a training portal. It’s at http://www.directionsu.com .

While the default WordPress theme is simple and elegant, customizing the theme allows you to give your site a personality and identity. You can put business logos or brand names to give people a better idea on what blog they are reading. It also serves as the basis for what color scheme to use since color schemes often revolve around the logo.

I’m currently developing a public theme (probably gonna sell it on theme-forest), and it’s really hard to cover everything since i have no idea how the user is going to use it. Does he use the post thumbnail feature for post thumbs, or he uses custom images or nothing at all, does he want the first image from the article to be shown or he doesn’t want any thumbs. That’s just a single example.
