What Can A Magician Teach You About Marketing?

I just had one of the biggest “AH-HA” moments that I’ve had in a LONG time!

What gave me this “Ah-Ha” moment was watching a magician’s act while sitting at dinner last night.

Actually, it wasn’t just the act. It was thinking back to past conversations that I’ve had with marketing extraordinaire, Ben Mack.

Ben actually got his start back in college as a Magician. In fact, he’s one of the most amazing Magician’s I’ve ever seen!

When you talk to Ben, when you hear him on teleconferences, and when you read his info products, you’ll often times hear him talking about his magic and applying lessons he learned back then to marketing.

It wasn’t until I was watching this kid’s magic act last night that the full impact of Ben’s lessons hit me! And let me tell you, they hit me HARD!

What I realized while watching this kid last night was that as marketers, we should all study magicians! The reason for their success is that they are truly an example of the ultimate marketers!

You see, in magic, it’s all about making your viewer’s mind believe something that his eye sees differently.

In other words, when a magician shows someone a trick, even if the viewer sees the magician’s slight of hand, if the magician can make the person BELIEVE that it was an amazing trick, the person will REMEMBER it as an
amazing trick!

Think about the people that we consider the BEST Magicians in the world. People like:

* Harry Houdini
* Criss Angel
* David Copperfield
* Your favorite Magician

Think about their acts.

What is it that made them memorable?
Is it the tricks themselves?
Or is it something about the way that the magician
acted or something that the magician said?

The ENTIRE magic show from any of the world’s greatest magicians is really nothing more than MARKETING!

What I realized while watching this magician last night was that no matter how remarkable a trick might seem, if the magician doesn’t do something or SAY something to MAKE you remember it, you won’t!

You can take a so-so magician and turn him into a total Super Star Magician, merely by adding MARKETING to his act!

If you take a ho-hum card act, and have the magician ask the right question, plant a few little “seeds” in the mind of the viewer to make the viewer BELIEVE that it’s the most amazing trick he’s ever seen, and whalla! the person is likely to BELIEVE that it is the most amazing trick he’s ever seen!

So what does this have to do with you?

Well, you need to do the exact same thing that magician does in YOUR business!

On your website, you want to give your visitor a taste of what you have to offer through something like a f’ree report.

In it, you really want to WOW your visitor with your amazing act! At the same time, you must plant little SEEDS to make your reader really believe that your info is the most amazing, most valuable stuff he’s ever seen.

In your copy, you want to plant even more little “seeds” to make your reader want what you have to offer even more.

Heck, if using the word “Abracadabra!” works for a magician, maybe it will work in your sales letter too!

What word or phrase can you come up with that will show your visitor that you can magically come up with the solution to their problem?

Let me break this down step-by-step for you …

1) Find a problem that you can solve for your market

2) Create a f’ree report that does a great job of showing your reader what the problem is, and getting the reader to really feel horrible about having the
problem. Then show your reader that YOU have the solution to their pain! Make sure that your report really WOWS! your reader!

3) Find an affiliate product that is the solution for your market and in your f’ree report, make sure that you not only outline the product as the solution, but also include ads for the solution at the end of the report.

4) Buy a domain name that relates to the solution

5) Put up a blog where you will create articles about both the problem and the solution

6) Put up a squeeze page where you give away the f’ree report. In your copy, make sure that you plant some “SEEDS”!

7) Use your blog to drive traffic to your opt in page over and over again. You can do this by using social bookmarking, writing articles, chatting in forums
while using Feedburner’s Headline Animator in your signature line, etc.

This will allow you to both build your list and make commissions as an affiliate.

Think about the big launches that you’ve seen recently for products like Mass Control or Stompernet. Remember the killer videos that were released? Those were designed to plant SEEDS in your mind and make you both want what they had to offer and to remember them!

It’s the same exact trick that magicians have been using for years to make you remember them!
